A partial view of the large glass plate
capacitor bank, that completes
the tank circuit of the Griffith Coil. This stack of glass plates,
measuring about 20" X 30", was constructed of some 40 individual
plates of glass, each being 1/4 inch thick. This capacitor lasted
for some 15 years, before it had to be replaced with a more modern
construction capacitor. Before the glass plate capacitor, the
Observatory utilized the original Layden Jar units, that were part
of the donated equipment given to the Observatory.
