Dick Aurandt's famous coil (he derived his
inspiration for building this coil after seeing the world famous conical Tesla Coil at the
Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles, CA, in the late 1930's). This coil was
completely restored to original condition and specifications after Dick Aurandt's
passing. With only 3 KVa A.C. input, this coil is capable of 6 foot arcs. The coil
stands 5 feet high. The corona points and copper discharge ball on top were inspired by
the coil Earl L. Ovington originally built for Dr. Frederick Finch Strong, who in turn
donated the two original conical secondary coils to the Griffith Park Observatory. |
