Operating a 110V Twin
Pancake Coil System on low voltage...("Fischer Cenco X-Ray Coil") Normally this machines runs on 110V. It has a power transformer of only 1000V output inside, and a large .6 mfd Mica Condenser. It is the closest machine ever manufactured to an original Tesla Coil of the 1890s vintage. It operates at a low frequency and is extremely efficient...the discharges seen are 5 - 6" long and the input power is less than 100 watts and less than 20% the normal operating voltage. The output of these tests were predominantly DC, based on the shapes of the top load capacacities used. (See Kinraide patents, No. 689,199 ELECTRODE, No. 12,408 IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO STATIC RECTIFIERS AND ELECTRICAL APPARATUS &C) Negative "phantom" or streamers 4 - 6" long were clearly visible in complete darkness, with an occasional hint of a "plumous" discharge; and Positive branching "filiciform" discharges were present. Photographing these without direct film contact is next to impossible. The following images were created by placing a piece of glass between the terminals, and attempting to photograph the results at different camera angles. |
